Blakeview Students Give Gawler a Blue Tree

April 18, 2024

Trinity College Blakeview students from Jamieson House spent their recent Service Day establishing a Blue Tree in Gawler.

Acting as a source of conversation that helps save lives. The blue trees are visual reminders to check in on loved ones and mates who might be struggling.

The Blue Tree Project was founded with a mission to help spark difficult conversations and encourage people to speak up when experiencing mental health concerns. Blue trees are dotted across most continents of the world and are both beacons of hope and conversation starters.

Trinity College Blakeview students send their sincere thanks to The Town of Gawler and Mayor Karen Redman for granting us permission to paint this tree and Mitre 10 Gawler for their kind donation of the ‘Blue Tree’ paint.

Open Day North, South and Senior

April 12, 2024

In the year that Trinity College is celebrating 40 years of operation, Open Day celebrations were too big to be contained to only one day.

With perfect weather, Open Day celebrations at North, South and Senior occurred on Sunday 7 April and proved to be a wonderful opportunity for our community to return to the College and new visitors to experience the Gawler site at its best.

All students, staff, parents and volunteers contributed significantly to making this incredible event a great success with the grounds, classrooms, libraries and all learning environments looking superb.

A large number of new families also took the opportunity to tour our schools with Principals and school leaders and many old scholars were welcomed back and played an important role in the success of the event.

What a day we had!

Community Gather for 40th Birthday Service

April 12, 2024

On Sunday 7 April staff, students, old scholars, special guests and the wider community gathered in the Hewitson Theatre STARplex for a whole college service to mark the College’s 40th Birthday.

Students from all Trinity schools packed the theatre and courts. Special guest, Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson, Governor of South Australia addressed the audience, offering wonderful words of support for our entire College community on this milestone achievement and, The Most Reverend Geoffrey Smith, Archbishop of Adelaide, gave a blessing to the College and our community.

In addition to a number of outstanding performances by a student band, choir and solo singers, during the service Head of Trinity College announced three new dedications. The Big Shed (a Trinity icon since the College was established at the Evanston site) has been refurbished and renamed The Harris Head Big Shed acknowledging two renowned old scholars, Australian cricketeers Ryan Harris (1997) and Travis Head (2011).

The main oval at Gawler River will now be known as The Jarman Oval in recognition of the school’s long serving and founding Gawler River principal Rick Jarman and the library at the new school at Roseworthy has been named The Throne Library in recognition of the contribution of former College Chair and Trinity Foundation Chair Dr Rupert Throne and Professor Helen Thorne who have been long term and stalwart supporters of Trinity College since its inception.

After an exhilarating service, the Gawler site opened and visitors took the opportunity to tour North, South and Senior schools as well as visit the Trinity Innovation and Creativity and the new Marnkutyi Parirna Performing Arts Theatre.

Other attractions also included the unveiling of an old scholars PhD Honour Board in the Roma Waite Library and an old scholar group photo in the newly refurbished Harris Head Big Shed.

Thanks to everyone who contributed or attended the Open Day Service and helping to make the experience very special indeed.

First XI Cricket - Intercol Victory!

April 02, 2024

Last week the First XI cricket successfully secured the Intercol Trophy for the sixth time in seven years after successfully defeating Woodcroft College at the annual two-day matchup.

Trinity College scored 177 and 0/93 defeating Woodcroft College 164 and 103. The match started well, with Trinity bowling first and taking regular wickets, despite some big hitting from two of Woodcroft's power hitters. Jye Silvy collected four wickets to have Woodcroft all out for 164.

Trinity's chase started well, with Rylan Watt opening the batting and scoring a flowing 49 to set up Trinity's innings. However, the loss of Rylan, Aidan Hockley and three wickets in the final 10 minutes saw Trinity slump from 1/71 to 5/75 by the close of play.

The second day was set up for a classic, with Jye Silvy and Riley Bubner putting together a commanding partnership. This continued with Jakob Harris joining Jye for the eighth wicket, which saw Trinity pass the runs and take a first innings lead of 13, with Jye finishing 74.

Woodcroft went back into bat, scoring a quick 103, with Trinity set the task of scoring 90 runs in 21 overs, or batting out for a draw to retain the trophy. We ended up chasing the runs without the loss of a wicket, again Rylan Watt and Austin Fielke steering the side home!

Jye Silvy was awarded Player of the Match honours with six wickets across two innings and a high score of 74 for the match. Congratulations and well done to everyone involved.
