Middle School Resilience Intervention
Focusing on the development of resilience in students, this study introduced a 10-week skills-based intervention drawing on Grotberg’s “I HAVE, I AM, I CAN” framework.
Implemented with a cohort of Middle School students, the programme aimed to strengthen protective factors, including peer support and personal coping skills. Students took part in structured lessons that combined explicit teaching of resilience strategies with opportunities to co-construct activities, ensuring high levels of engagement and buy-in. Evidence from teacher feedback and anecdotal observations suggested that participants displayed greater persistence in challenging situations, improved willingness to collaborate, and more positive responses to setbacks.
The project’s success also inspired further professional learning, reinforcing the importance of teacher-led initiatives in fostering student wellbeing and emotional growth. By embedding resilience education in everyday learning, the project highlights how practical, research-informed interventions can make a meaningful difference to students’ confidence and capacity to adapt.
