Community Gather for 40th Birthday Service

April 12, 2024

On Sunday 7 April staff, students, old scholars, special guests and the wider community gathered in the Hewitson Theatre STARplex for a whole college service to mark the College’s 40th Birthday.

Students from all Trinity schools packed the theatre and courts. Special guest, Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson, Governor of South Australia addressed the audience, offering wonderful words of support for our entire College community on this milestone achievement and, The Most Reverend Geoffrey Smith, Archbishop of Adelaide, gave a blessing to the College and our community.

In addition to a number of outstanding performances by a student band, choir and solo singers, during the service Head of Trinity College announced three new dedications. The Big Shed (a Trinity icon since the College was established at the Evanston site) has been refurbished and renamed The Harris Head Big Shed acknowledging two renowned old scholars, Australian cricketeers Ryan Harris (1997) and Travis Head (2011).

The main oval at Gawler River will now be known as The Jarman Oval in recognition of the school’s long serving and founding Gawler River principal Rick Jarman and the library at the new school at Roseworthy has been named The Throne Library in recognition of the contribution of former College Chair and Trinity Foundation Chair Dr Rupert Throne and Professor Helen Thorne who have been long term and stalwart supporters of Trinity College since its inception.

After an exhilarating service, the Gawler site opened and visitors took the opportunity to tour North, South and Senior schools as well as visit the Trinity Innovation and Creativity and the new Marnkutyi Parirna Performing Arts Theatre.

Other attractions also included the unveiling of an old scholars PhD Honour Board in the Roma Waite Library and an old scholar group photo in the newly refurbished Harris Head Big Shed.

Thanks to everyone who contributed or attended the Open Day Service and helping to make the experience very special indeed.
