Harmony Week - Everyone Belongs

March 27, 2024

Harmony Week is a time we celebrate our diversity and consider the many benefits we gain from having culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Trinity College is a vibrant and multicultural College and community. From the world’s oldest continuous culture of our first Australians to the cultures of our newest arrivals from around the world. Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths.

During Harmony Week Trinity students have been celebrating multiculturalism, inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background.

The students worked each day on a Harmony Project discussing what it means to feel like you belong, learning about their classmates’ countries of origin, brainstorming how to make new students to our school feel welcome and much more!

Trinity Teams Excel at Annual Pétanque Tournament

March 26, 2024

On Thursday evening last week, nine teams represented Trinity College at the annual South Australian French Teachers Association (SAFTA) schools Pétanque competition.

Of the four primary school teams, two teams made it through to the semi-finals, one from South and one from Gawler River. Unfortunately, these teams had to play each other to make it through to the finals and the South team of Olivia, Matilda, Annabelle and Mishri prevailed. These students went on to win the final against Mercedes College.

Four of our secondary school teams managed to make it to the quarter finals and two to the semi-finals (teams from Gawler River and South). The South team of Mitchell, Bob and Dominic lost in the final to a strong team from Renmark.

Our thanks go to the students, who represented Trinity superbly and to the parents who supported the students on the night.

Trinity Swimming Off to a Stellar Start in 2024

March 18, 2024

Trinity College swimmers have had a great start to the year with excellent results achieved at the SSSSA A Grade Swimming Championships, School Teams Swimming Championships and the first three meets of SAAS Swimming. Well done to all participants on a great start to the year!

SSSSA A Grade Championships

This is our most important event, in which we competed against the top swimming schools in the state. A very formal and professionally run carnival, a large team participated enthusiastically to achieve consistent and outstanding results – boys and girls both finished in second place overall, with a second-place result. All swimmers did their best to achieve this great outcome. Many swimmers will soon receive placing certificates for finishing in the top three of individual and relay events. Some will receive a ‘standard’ certificate, which acknowledges a particularly fast time.

Especially noteworthy were swims by Isabella Dowler (Year 10), Mallika Fletcher (Year 9), Noah Lewcock (Year 8), Ocea Nesci (Year 8), Jarrad Smith (Year 11), Ewan Stubbings (Year 8), Harry Stubbings (Year 11), Fab Towers (Year 10) and Ula Waligora (Year 10) who all achieved a first-place finish in at least one individual race.

School Teams Swimming Championships

This was a swimming relay only meet, in which swimmers competed in year level groupings. Relays were a mixture of traditional and fun events. The team had a great night and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Overall, the boys team finished in second place and the girls team in third place.

The Year 9/10 girls (Miella Curthoys-Davies, Isabella Dowler, Ava Nesci, Madison Sanchez, Georgie Sloane, Emily Towers, Ula Waligora) ran out overall winners in their division, while the Year 11/12 boys (Keian Curthoys-Davies, Jarrad Smith, Harry Stubbings, Dinith Subasinha, Nic Vuksan, Matthew Waligora) finished first in a three-way tie.

SAAS Swimming Meets

Throughout Term 1, a small team has been competing on Wednesday afternoons at St Peter’s College and Prince Alfred College. The team has won four out of five meets and is expecting to be selected for the competition final.

Gold for Trinity Students at Athletics SA State Championships

March 18, 2024

It was gold, gold, gold for both current students and an old scholar at the Athletics SA 2024 State Championships. The event was a culmination of a long series of athletic competitions over the summer period and once again the prowess of Trinity College athletes was on full display.

The performance of the entire championships belonged to Trinity U/17 athlete Liam Griffiths (Year 11). In his only event, Liam jumped 7.26m in the long jump, a result that would have placed him second in the Open Men’s Long Jump. With the nationals soon to be held in Adelaide, Liam is a great chance for a position on the podium, possibly gold.

Mia Devlin (Year 12) competed in four events in the U/20 age group winning medals in each event. The stand-out event was the triple jump where Mia won gold with a jump of 10.84m. Mia won silver in both the 100m, 12.48 and the long jump with 5.32m. In the 200m Mia finished third with a fast time of 25.72, winning bronze.

At only 14, Ashleigh Heggie is already a rising star on the football field and in the pool. In the athletics championships Ashleigh won gold in the high jump,1.62m, silver in the shot put, 9.13m and bronze in the javelin, 26.45m.

Emma Henkel (Year 12) won a national bronze medal in the 1500m at the All-Schools Championships in Perth last year so a win in the state titles was always likely. As an U/18 Emma ran 4.36.16 for gold and backed up with a silver in the 800m in an excellent time of 2.09.6

Middle distance runner James Skelton (Year 12) came into the championships in outstanding form winning gold in the u/20 3000m steeplechase in 4.27.20. James also ran well to come third in the 1500m in 4.27.20 to grab the bronze.

A true multi event athlete, Stephan Pretorius (Year 11) competed in seven events in the u/18 age group. His best result came in the hammer where he won silver with 25.64m. Stephan also won bronze in both the triple jump,11.79m and the javelin, 42.24m. Stephan’s other events were the shot put where he finished fourth (12.30m) the pole vault fifth (2.60m) high jump sixth (1.66) and discuss sixth (25.75m).

U/17 competitor Mason Lowe (Year 10) had an excellent championship medalling in three events. Mason won silver in the100m in 11.37m and the triple jump with a leap of 13.06m. In the high jump Mason jumped 1.78m for the bronze medal.

Always willing to try any event for her school, Sophie Houston (Year 12) competed in four events with her best result a silver in the u/20 100m hurdles in 19.29 seconds. Sophie also won bronze in the triple jump with a jump of 9.72m. In the sprints Sophie finished seventh in the 100m,13.99 and eighth in the 200m, 29.07.

Amaya Zerk (Year 11) is an U/18 middle distance runner who is a regular member of the College interschool teams. Amaya’s best run at the championships was in the 800m where she ran 2.36 to finish fourth. A solid run in the 1500m saw Amaya finish eighth with a time of 5.32.14.
