So Close for T20 Cricketers
The Open Girls T20 Knockout Cricket Team fell agonisingly short of an incredible sixth-straight state title after narrowly losing to Woodcroft College in the final last week. Trinity made qualified for the finals after defeating Nuriootpa High School and Faith Lutheran College in the early rounds.
Affecting the team selection were several factors including COVID, illness, injury and timing of the finals. However, we were able to discover more keen girls wanting to play. In the final against Woodcroft College, we bowled first and kept taking wickets. Evelyn Todd and Alanah Gregory took wickets, 3 and 2 respectively. But, we gave the Woodcroft team too many easy runs via the way of extras.
When it was our turn to bat we made a good start but kept losing wickets. Our Captain Emmerson Filsell nearly got us home, but was out with 14 runs to go and we couldn’t hang on long enough to score the runs needed. The golden run has ended but it wasn’t given up without a great fight. A deserving win to the Woodcroft girls.
Well done Trinity on making the final for the sixth year in a row! Team members were Emmerson Filsell (Year 12), Alanah Gregory (Year 12), Charlotte Parks (Year 12), Evelyn Todd (Year 9), Zoe Porter (Year 9), Kaitlyn Winchester (Year 8), Bella Yandle (Year 9), Mia Ireland (Year 8), Emma Dowling (Year 9), Bella Shelley (Year 9) and Chardonnae Brennan (Year 9).
