Second State Title for Open Boys Basketball

September 17, 2025

The Open Boys Basketball team have won a second state title in as many years after defeating Sports College 60-47 in the final on Wednesday 17 September.

Outstanding defence igniting a fast-break running game was again their formula for success.

Deng Manyang (Year 12) and Shabani Kuyomba (Year 12) were strong around the basket, Josh Louis (Year 11) and Talon Bomford (Year 12) showed excellent leadership and poise, whilst Ezra Wormald (Year 11), David Jaja (Year 11), Guet Deng (Year 12) and Dexter Connolly (Year 12) all contributed at pivotal moments.

Despite being without SAAS grand final MVP Mack Schaftenaar (Year 11) due to an ankle injury the depth of our Trinity team was on full display as well controlled the final from the start.

In the earlier semifinal game against Prince Alfread College, it was a similar story. Lock-down defence leading to easy transition baskets in pivotal moments proving too much for our opponents.

Congratulations to coach Chris Clausen and team for another outstanding season. Lunchtime weights sessions, daily shooting sessions before and after school and an unrivalled commitment to the College team further cements Trinity’s reputation as one of the premier basketball programs in the country.

The team will now prepare for school’s nationals in Gold Coast in December as one of only eight teams in the championship division.

A sincere thank you to all staff and students who supported the team throughout the campaign.
