Open Girls Cricket Team Makes History

February 13, 2026

Trinity's Open Girls Cricket Team has made history competing in their first-ever Open Girls Cricket weekly competition match on Friday 6 February.

This year, Trinity joined the Open Girls division of the Independent Girls School Sports Association (IGSSA), looking to improve our already storied history in knockout competition and the team travelled to Westminster College for the match.

Batting first, the girls posted a competitive total of 5/86 off 14 overs, highlighted by a composed and confident innings from Alyssa Keylock (Year 11) who retired on 25 and great support from Oly Smedley (Year 10) with an unbeaten 17. The pair showed excellent shot selection and ran well between the wickets to build a great partnership.

In reply, Westminster was restricted to 5/70 thanks to an outstanding all-round team performance in the field. The girls applied consistent pressure and disciplined bowling, with Alyssa Keylock (Year 11) and Khushima Sharma (Year 8) each claiming two wickets and Kaitlyn Winchester (Year 12) claiming one.

It was fantastic to see the team play their first match of the year in this competition with such enthusiasm and teamwork. A great start to the IGSSA season for the Open Girls.

The following Monday, the team played the first round of knockout against Nuriootpa High School coming away with an eight-wicket victory.

Congratulations to the girls on their success in their first ever weekly competition game and for being part of the Trinity College Girls Cricket Program. Special thanks also to coach Seren Hughes and co-ordinator Brad Schaper who have been the driving forces behind the growth of the program.
