Nehemiah Joins National Youth Advisory Committee

Trinity College Year 11 student Nehemiah Ellie has recently been appointed to the national Together for Humanity (TFH) Youth Advisory Committee and is now one of 12 young people who will bring issues of importance to the TFH leadership team and board.

Together for Humanity is an inclusive education organisation working with schools and communities to foster intercultural understanding and help students learn how to deal with differences. 

Pat Fabian, Trinity College InterCultural Understanding Partnerships Facilitator said “the Youth Advisory Committee is a great volunteering opportunity for young people to build their confidence, gain new skills and experience as well as advocate for critical issues facing youth in Australian schools and communities. Nehemiah has been an outstanding student leader at Trinity and his maturity and personal experience is sure to make him an excellent representative on the Youth Advisory Committee.”

The Youth Advisory Committee work together with TFH to ensure young people’s intellectual struggles and issues are met and addressed within their programs and services within school communities. The committee also provides young people with a voice enabling them to make a valuable and tangible contribution to the wider community. 

“I’ve attended a couple of meetings so far and I am really enjoying the experience.” said Nehemiah

“It’s really important to me to offer my perspective on issues related to intercultural understanding, racism, prejudice, inclusion and overall belonging. It’s also been really beneficial to hear the experiences of other committee members because I think the more we understand each other the more likely we are to truly make change and see a difference.”

“I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to represent my school and South Australia on the Youth Advisory Committee, developing cultural awareness and confidence in myself and knowing my contribution is helping others build a stronger sense of belonging has been really rewarding.”
