Lion Dancing Troupe Delights Audiences
The Lion Dance tradition at Trinity College continues to grow with the troupe recently visiting three Trinity schools this year for lunchtime performances and workshops to share their pride as well as the rich heritage of Chinese culture.
The troupe has been warmly welcomed by students and teachers with their performances receiving enthusiastic applause, laughter and cheers that all contribute to an overall festive atmosphere and there are plans for the troupe to visit the other Trinity schools soon.
“The Lion Dance is a significant part of Chinese culture, symbolising strength, good fortune and unity. For our students, it offers more than just a cultural experience - it builds essential skills such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience.” said Chinese Teacher Hongrui Chen.
“It also encourages them to embrace diversity, boost their confidence and connect with the rich traditions of Chinese heritage.”
“Through performances and workshops, students gain a deeper understanding of this art form while fostering a sense of community and pride in representing something larger than themselves.”
In addition to sharing Chinese culture, the troupe is also keen to inspire other students to join the troupe. Students have created a promotional video that has been shared with the College community.
The Lion Dance Troupe has also been invited to perform at the 2024 OzAsia Festival on Saturday 26 of October and are looking forward to appearing at other community events in the near future.
