Australian Children’s Author Visits During Book Week
Beloved Australian author, illustrator and art teacher Leigh Hobbs has been a special guest of the College during Book Week this year.
Leigh Hobbs was the Australian Children’s Laureate 2016/2017 and his books have enchanted and entertained children for generations. Though he works across a wide range of mediums, he is best known for the children’s books he has written and illustrated featuring his characters Old Tom, Horrible Harriet, Fiona The Pig, Mr Badger, The Freaks in 4F and Mr Chicken.
Old Tom was adapted into a popular French/Australian 52-episode animated TV series and Mr Chicken was adapted for the stage by the National Institute for the Dramatic Arts. Horrible Harriet was adapted for the stage and appeared in a production at The Sydney Opera House in 2017.
During the week he has visited all the EYs to Year 10 schools to host special drawing and characters sessions with students and on Tuesday evening, over 70 parents and students gathered in TICS to enjoy an entertaining and enlightening meet the author gathering. During this interactive session Leigh discussed his iconic characters as well as the importance of reading and drawing.
Leigh Hobbs said he was delighted to visit Trinity College and to have the opportunity to offer these sessions to our community as part of his visit during Book Week.
