Open A Basketball Win SAAS

Basketball 140817

Trinity Open A Basketball Team claimed the 2017 Sports Association of Adelaide Schools (SAAS) championship with a 43-36 win over Cabra on Saturday 12 August.

The game was won on the back of a devastating 17-2 first quarter when Cabra could find no holes in the Trinity defence with Alex Roberts forming a one-man wall inside. On the offensive end, Brad Skuce had 11 of his game-high 21 points in the first and Campbell Watts had four points. Cabra clawed back in the remaining three quarters with excellent ball movement and plucky general play, but Trinity were never genuinely threatened. (Scorers Skuce 21, Watts 8 and Sapwell 4).

In the earlier semi-final game, Trinity squeaked past a strong Sacred Heart outfit 35-34 after taking the lead for the first time in the game in the dying minutes on the back of two Kalani Sapwell three-pointers. (Scorers: Skuce 11, Sapwell 8, Watts 7, Deklan Crook 5).

The team moves on to the state finals on Wednesday 16 August with confidence, but plenty of room for improvement.
